Run By Retailers, For Retailers: The FY27 Growth Blueprint
Run By Retailers, For Retailers: Inside the FY27 Growth Blueprint
On 25 June, we filled a room in Sydney with some of Australia's most ambitious retail leaders for a morning built on one idea: retailers learn fastest from other retailers. No sponsors on stage. No sales pitches. Just the numbers, the mistakes, and what actually moves the needle in FY27.
Most retail events are built to sell you something. This one wasn't.
The Retail Leaders Collective started with a simple frustration. Too many industry mornings end with a vendor keynote and a follow-up call you didn't ask for. So we built the opposite — an industry-first event, run by retailers, for retailers. The people on stage had done the work. The people in the room had the numbers to back it up.
Here's what happened at The FY27 Growth Blueprint, and what you can take from it.
The Workshop: Find Your One Constraint
Hosted by Vanja Stace, the workshop wasn't a lecture. Every brand in the room opened their own numbers and worked through them live.
The premise: growth isn't held back by a hundred small problems. It's held back by one. Find that single constraint and you know exactly where the next dollar and the next hour should go.
By the end, every attendee left with a decision tree for the year ahead — not a generic framework, but a next step mapped to their own business. That's the difference between an event you enjoy and an event you act on.
The takeaway: Before you plan FY27, name the one thing standing between you and your next stage of growth. Everything else is noise until that's solved.
The Panel: What Actually Moves the Needle
Hosted by Brogan Hembrow, the panel was titled "What Actually Moves the Needle: Unfiltered" — and it earned the name. Kristy Wales (Alémais), Kate Sorenson (Arcina Ori) and Rachael Ward (Ksubi) shared what genuinely delivered returns, the mistakes they made getting there, and the metrics actually worth watching.
No polished case studies. Three operators talking honestly about what worked, what didn't, and what they'd do differently. A few themes stood out:
Fewer bets, bigger commitment. The brands seeing real returns aren't spreading themselves thin across every channel and trend. They pick, commit, and measure.
Watch the right numbers. Vanity metrics feel good and change nothing. The panel kept coming back to the handful of figures that genuinely predict growth.
Mistakes are the shortcut. The most useful moments weren't the wins — they were the honest accounts of what went wrong, so the room didn't have to repeat them.
Why We Built It
At MILQ Digital, our work is about merchant empowerment — helping brands grow on their own terms, without dependency. An event run by retailers, for retailers, is that belief in a room.
We're proud to have hosted it alongside Shopify and Athos Commerce, and grateful to the leaders who shared their numbers and their honesty. The energy in the room made one thing clear: retailers want fewer pitches and more substance. So that's what we'll keep building.
The Next One Is Already Coming
We're planning the next Retail Leaders Collective event now. If the FY27 Growth Blueprint sounds like your kind of morning — real numbers, honest conversation, no sales theatre — get on the list before it opens to the wider audience.
